woman receiving treatment

Because your feet absorb the impact from each step, it’s hard to ignore heel pain. It can be the result of a variety of conditions, including injuries. At Twin River Podiatry Easton, we can diagnose your heel pain and develop a plan for treatment to get you back on your feet comfortably.

Diagnosing Heel Pain

A proper diagnosis is needed to identify the cause of the pain in any area of the foot and to determine the best treatment method. Our podiatrist examines the entire area to pinpoint the exact location of the pain. X-rays may be taken to rule out excessive bone growth or bone abnormalities. Other common tests we may perform include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT scan), three-phase bone scan, diagnostic ultrasound and neurosensory testing. In most cases, though, the cause of pain can be identified through X-rays and a physical examination by Dr. Kaplan.

Heel Pain Treatment Methods

Some of the most common causes of heel pain that we treat include heel spurs, which are a result of a bony growth on the underside of the heel bone, and plantar fasciitis, which is inflammation of the band of connective tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot.

Other common conditions include tendonitis and arthritis. Common treatment methods for these ailments may include oral or injectable anti-inflammatory medications. We may also fit you for an orthotic device that helps support the tendons and ligaments attached to the heel bone, or we may suggest shockwave therapy. In severe cases, we may recommend surgery. Regardless of the recommended treatment, our qualified podiatrist can help you start walking pain-free again.
